These photographs show the hulks and restoration projects in Forton Lake, located at the far end of what used to be HMS St. Vincent. Across the lake used to be Priddy's Hard (now a housing estate)
These hulks are currently the subject of an archaeological survey by the Nautical Archaeology Society in collaboration with the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology have been awarded a £25,000 Local Heritage Initiative grant.
Many of the hulks are currently unidentified but the work continues.
Among the shots I took are one of the remains of the old Chain Boat which used to ply the River Medina on the Isle of Wight and a number of them show the old Portsmouth Harbour ferry boat, 'Vadne'.
The remainder are unidentified but the distant shot across the Lake is a 105 class mine sweeper, MMS293 built in 1942/43.
